Mystic with bird spirits — 2023

Based on a photograph of Sitting Bull of the Hunkpapa, I have remade this character into an important mystic in one of my fantasy universes.

Native American Gothic — 2023

Inspired by a picture of the Apache warrior, chief and medicine-man, Geronimo, I painted this work in acrylic paint. These subjects are placed in my fantasy universe depicting them as a people in rebellion against an overarching colonialist power from another world.

Gaawiin miinawaa Miinawaa — 2023

“The life of a man is a circle from childhood to childhood, and so it is in everything where power moves.” – Black Elk (Oglala Lakota)

Take Back the Land; Take Back the Night — 2023

This piece was final project for a painting course. In this, I wanted to engage with the issue of missing and murdered indigenous women. For me, I feel that this is a multifaceted issue which required engagement on all levels.

The Mesozoic Trail — 2017

Imagine dinosaurs existed alongside the Native peoples. What might that have looked like? How might they have been used as beasts of burden, assuming the Settlers were able to progress similarly in the timeline.

This piece was done by first creating a sketch on paper which was then scanned and then cast on a wall via projector. From here, using the original drawing as a template, the whole family joined in on painting in water color, with direction, the art work on a canvas.

This is a collaborative piece, which began with one artist conceiving of the idea of westward expansion with mesozoic desert animals, which I found reference pictures for. From here, I created the line art, which was painted over by the other two artists and myself. I view scenarios like this as opportunities to communicate truths about colonialism. This is just one piece in an intended longer series.
